317 Why Are We Cancelling Theatre Cases at Ealing Hospital? What Can Be Done?

Abstract Introduction Following a recent spate of on the day cancellation elective operations being cancelled surgery, need for wider review was felt. Our aim to identify causes behind these cancellations. Method Retrospective data collection performed categorise patients according reason cancellation. Analysis consisted case presentations prepared and presented surgical consultants. Results A total 130 were surgery. 22 due procedure not required 10 insufficient pre-operative investigations. 32 cases demonstrated that majority seen listed surgery after clinical by registrar without involvement consultant. Some cancellations occurred when consultant responsible listing patient different operating Both factors lead differences in opinion arising Conclusions Ensuring are only discussion with would reduce from lack experience misjudgment registrar. It also ensure added pooled lists less subjective their indication readiness.
